Scrappin On Sundays...

Hello everyone...

Here is your SOS for this Sunday, July 13th, 2008

The middle of July is an exciting time for us at Windy City Scrapbooking as we prepare for CHA. Not only are we in anticipation of what the manufacturers are releasing for the rest of the year, but we are also in anticipation of making room for the new...hence, our Christmas in July Sidewalk Sale or as Susan referred to our terrain as being Hardwood. I have not been in the store for a couple of days so I am anxious to get into the store to purchase some items from our Christmas in July Sale. I am looking to pick up a few die cuts from My Mind's Eye as they make perfect accent pieces to any page or project and I am also looking to pick up a few sets of acrylic stamps from Luxe Designs...and speaking of My Mind's Eye and Luxe...did you know that they are teaching classes at our store this week? Along with Teresa Collins and Spencer from Quickutz is visiting us this week too...

This week we not only started our Christmas in July sale (check out our website for more details at http://www.windycityscrapbooking.com/ , but we are kicking off our CHA Celebrity Classes.
We started off today with a class taught by Claire Hampton of Hampton Arts and I heard that everyone was very pleased with learning new techniques and meeting her.
Teresa Collins will be at our store this Wednesday and the class and class kits are sold out but we might be able to work our Windy City magic and may be able to get a kit for you...just call at the store and leave your contact info and we will see what we can do.
K.C. and Jody from My Mind's Eye will be teaching a layout/technique class on Thursday night and this class is only limited to 15 people and we only have a few spots left....they will be using new product that will not be available until way after the show...be the first to get your hands on it and learn from "The Guys from My Mind's Eye"
Spencer, from Quickutz, will be at our store on Friday night and will be bringing a couple of his Quickutz buddies to make Susan blush and maybe show a few new releases...let's see who will be dancing on the counter top that night
The Luxe Ladies, Emily and Jennifer, will be teaching a cool mini album class on Saturday night and there will also be a make and take that night with Luxe as well.
Finally...there is a crop this Friday night, July 18th and Sesil and myself will be working the crop.... there are only a few slots left so stop by or call to RSVP your spot.

Last but not least...I leave you with a few fun photos from today's Claire Hampton's class. I hope that everyone that took the class really had a great time, and by the way...way to go Emily for winning the spot to take the class...I enjoyed meeting you in my Basics class and I hope to see you again.

Hello everyone,

Here is your SOS for this Sunday

We have been busy...as always...putting new merchandise out just for you
New Cosmo Cricket is in which includes Black Board Books in different sizes and new papers along with ribbons and rubons.
The new Luxe acrylic stamps are in and they are very versatile...it is hard for me to decide which one to get, if not all of them.
For classes this week, Grace will hold her Card Club class on Monday night and she will be designing cards that you may use for Mother's Day, Wedding, Sympathy, and Baby. If you want to learn about adding more to your pages, I am teaching Beyond Basics on Tuesday. Michealene is teaching her Birthday Rolodex class on Wednesday and Sesil will be teaching a Basics class on Thursday. There are Happy Hours scheduled for this week and we have a crop this Friday which is almost full. (It is Sesil's birthday so she will be cropping that night too.)

Scrappin On Sundays...SOS

Well...

I see that Christina and Susan took a little time out from placing orders at CHA in Anaheim to post on the blog...I am so glad that they are there and can not wait for them to get back to tell us about all of the great new things that are coming in to Windy City Scrapbooking (and to share the bitter cold with us)

With that being said...The WCS staff decided to have a little fun while Christina and Susan are gone...

Yes...we are having a SALE!!!
In the spirit of CHA...with Christina and Susan being away...we are going to play!!!
So to help us make even more room for new merchandise coming in soon, we are having a SALE. You will receive 15% OFF all regularly priced merchandise. There are some exclusions, like on previously purchased merchandise, Quickutz Limited Edition, Quickutz Revolution, QuicKutz Silhouette and it must be on items that are in stock (no special orders) and there is also an online store coupon for Basic Grey...make sure to check the website for information on that special...I hear it is a good one

I just wanted to share a couple of photos to support what was posted early about the store looking alittle empty...I hope Susan and Christina are running out of ink as they write orders...we are making the room for, so please make sure to join us to help out...the sale ends this Tuesday, February 12th at 9pm.

There are other cool things happening at Windy City Scrapbooking this week...
1st...We have a lot of Happy Hours scheduled this week at our Creative Cafe Art Bar and they are really cute projects, such as a scrapbook page, a card and even a trifold card... just in time for Valentine's Day...you can keep it for yourself or give it as a gift.
2nd...We have some great classes this week too. There is the CARD CLUB with Grace and she has some great cards for this month (remember with this class, there are different cards made each month and Grace is so creative with her cards). There is the Birthday Rolodex with Michaelene, which is a really cute way to keep up with birthdays and a great way to use your scraps. There is a Paper Dolls class which is great Mommy and Me class and there is a Stitchery class where you can learn how to create stitches on your pages and both classes are taught by Angie. Finally, there are our Basic classes, which are FREE...Sesil is teaching one this week and next Sunday, the 17th, I am teaching both Basics and Beyond the Basics classes, where you can not only learn the fundamentals but also take it a step beyond with more techniques and tips.
3rd...We are having a Quickutz club meeting on Wednesday...February 13th and I am sure there will some great things to share and discuss and if you are interested in joining the Quickutz club, it is never too late...you may either call us at the store or check the website for more details about the Quickutz QTs
Keep in mind that we will be closing early on Valentine's Day...5pm to be exact
Does anyone have any special plans for Valentine's Day? Please feel free to share, and post on the blog what you are doing on the LOVE DAY or what you did. I will be doing a drawing for some blog candy so make sure to post so you may be entered into the drawing. You have until February 16th, midnight to post your response.
Speaking of Valentine's Day...I love what Melissa did with the window for this month and here is Sesil sending me her heart as I came to work this past Friday...I worked the CROP this past Friday with Cheryl (one of our newest employees) and we had a great time with the croppers...we had a full crop too. Make sure to call in and register for your spot for the last two crops for this month...on Saturday, February 23rd, we are having an ALL DAY CROP FOR THE HEART CROP (10am-11pm) and we are having a LEAP DAY CROP on Friday, February 29th (5:30pm-11:30pm)
Our Creation Table is still keeping with the Valentine's Day theme as I did change it to some of the new My Mind's Eye Papers called Adore and this week's Design Team creations featured on our Creation Table are courtesy of Angie...make sure to stop by and see our table in person and get inspired to create.
Well...this is your SOS for this Sunday, February 10th...

Scrappin' On Sundays...SOS

Here is you SOS for Sunday, January 27th, 2008
Hope that you had a great weekend!
Has your creativity been sparked?
Well, if it hasn't I have something for you...
I just wanted to share with you our Creation table for this week.
One of our Design Team Members, Melissa, brought in her design team projects a few days early and with me being Design Team Coordinator...I was so happy and pleased with her not only turning it in early but with being inspired to create lovely projects. She used Cosmo Cricket's Hey Sugar line which is really cute...With Valentine's Day being around the corner, these are the perfect papers to do a cute layout with or even alter a few items...Here Melissa altered the 7-Gypsies Small Pizza Box (great for putting cookies or sweet treats in) and she altered a little tin (great for putting a small accordion book to hold your favorite photos) both may be given as gifts or you may keep for yourself

This week at the store, we do have a few classes that include, Basics with Jen, a Calendar Class with Angie, and Danielle's KISS Class. There is also a crop this Friday where there are a few spots left...this happens to be the crop that I am working. We also have Creative Cafe Happy Hours scheduled for this week. Feel free to contact or come by the store to sign up for any of the upcoming classes or crops.
Also, this Tuesday, January 29th is T-shirt day so make sure to save alittle extra if you wear your WCS T-shirt...we just reordered some and so they are available for purchase.

SCRAPPIN ON SUNDAYS...

I am so sorry that I did not post last Sunday
Busy getting the twins ready for school last week
I want to thank those of you who either posted your WORD for the year or came by the store and shared with me or any of the other Windy City team members your WORD for the year. I hope to encourage you to stick to it (while I COMMIT to stick to mine)...

We had a great weekend at the store as we had our first BAG SALE...I helped set up the night before and I could not believe the amount of scrap supplies that was available for purchase and to fit into the different size bags....Let us just say that it was a great way to stock up on items for yourself and your little ones (like I did)
Thanks to everyone who came out to support. I really thought of this as a way to NOT MAKE US COUNT IT as we will be closed this Wednesday, January 16th, ALL DAY for inventory, so again thank you for coming out and buying so that we will not have to count it.

This week we have a lot of classes planned. Angie is holding her first Paper Dolls class(great for little scrappers) for the New Year along with her Altered Envelope class. I had the pleasure of previewing projects from both classes and both are really cute and very useful. Grace will be starting up the CARD CLUB and let me tell you...for those of you looking for a way to use your scraps, create the perfect card and have fun doing it all at the same time, this is the class for you. This is also a great way to learn new techniques for your scrapbook pages, your invitations and anything else you want to create. We have our Creative Cafe this Thursday along with Beyond Basics with me on Thursday night and guess what is back....CROP NIGHTS!!!

That is right, our CROP NIGHTS will be staring back up this Friday, January 18th 5:30-11:30 and for $15.00 you may come and not only meet fellow scrapbookers but also have a great dinner, enjoy snacks, give-a-ways and raffles. There are a few seats still left and we also have CROP NIGHT next Friday, January 25th. You may just call the store and we can take your reservation over the phone. Also this week, actually next Saturday, January 19th, we will have our 2nd Teacher Open House from 12pm-2pm. Come out and meet all of Windy City Scrapbooking's instructors and do a few make and takes with us. Remember...classes are a great way to jump start your creativity, learn new techniques, get those photos out of those boxes and those supplies that you have purchased from Windy City out of those bags.

Do not forget that we still have Quickutz specials going on too...check out our website at http://www.windycityscrapbooking.com/ for more details or feel free to call us @ 773-935-0585 if you have any questions about anything.

Scrappin On Sundays...

for the last time in 2007...here is your SOS

I hope every one's Holidays were good and most of all memorable...did you take a lot of photos? I know that I did and I even managed to get into some of the shots. Make sure that you are part of your photos...remember that your family wants to know about the person behind the camera as well.
Did you get what you wanted on your lists? Scrap-related or non scrap-related? I received non scrap related gifts mostly...except what I received from my Secret Santa's, which were great scrap related gifts.
We were really busy at Windy City Scrapbooking this past week, helping with picking out the perfect scrap gift and also helping creating holiday cards, calendars, and gifts.
This week, leading into 2008, make sure that you check out our website as our classes for January will be posted in which there are some new ones like Calendar Creating with Angie, a Baby Journal with Michaelene and a Love Wall Hanging with me. Also...the new coupons for the month will be posted by the New Year along with our crop schedule, make and take schedule and big event for the month of January...I hear that we are having a BAG SALE and it is going to be HUGE!!! Look out for upcoming details.

So I have been thinking of something special to do for the year 2008 and I went to the blog of Ali Edwards and I would like to share with you part of a post of hers that I would love for all of the Breeze Blog readers to join in on for 2008...

"One little word
A single word can be a powerful thing.
It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow.
Last fall in issue two of this newsletter I wrote about the power of words and gave my top ten tips for getting those words down when you are scrapbooking. Today I want to introduce you to the idea that a single word can be a catalyst for enriching your life as well as your scrapbook layouts.
Last year I began a tradition of choosing one word for myself each January - a word that I can focus on, mediate on, and reflect upon as I go about my daily life. Last year my word was something I wanted to bring into my life in a more tangible way. My word was play.
I thought a lot about play and what it means to me. I tried to incorporate it more into my everyday and on my adventures out in the crazy world. For me, it was a lot about living without fear - about being more open to experiences with an attitude of playfulness. The word play found its way onto many scrapbook pages and into many stories I told throughout the year.
Can you identify a single word that sums up what you want for yourself in 2007?
It can be something tangible or intangible. It could be a thought or a feeling or an emotion. It can be singular or plural. The key is to find something that has personal meaning for you. This is not your mother's word or your spouse's word or your child's word - this is YOUR word.
One little word can have big meaning in your life if you allow yourself to be open to the possibilities. And here's one thing that is totally interesting: sometimes a word will pop into your brain and it will not make any sense to you right now. Give it some time. Let it percolate a bit. I have often found that our hearts speak to us in very unique ways. Maybe this is a word you need to hear but just aren't ready for it yet. Again, be open to the possibilities. You may be wondering, what in the heck does this all have to do with scrapbooking? For me, words are at the heart of what I do. The photos are a huge part, but the words bring it all home. Often times I will begin a layout with a single word. That word becomes my guide as I create my page. It helps me focus the story I am trying to tell and gives me an instant, easy graphic title approach. How often has a word directed your creativity when working on layouts?"

So after reading this again and also being challenged to do this on another message board that I belong to, I thought it would be great to do with all of you. If you are a fan of Ali, as I am, she is gearing up for 2008 so this can be a way for all of us to share, encourage, and inspire.
So I would love to share with you my word for 2008........................COMMIT
On my personal blog, I will share more of this in the upcoming year so feel free to visit my blog.
In the meantime, to get us started, I would love for you to share your word for the upcoming year...you may post anonymously if you choose to do so or with your name...I would just like to see you post to know that you are out there and will join me on this year long challenge. This will be something else that I plan on doing with " SOS" in the upcoming year on top of other things that I have in store for you.

Shifting gears, I wanted to announce the winner of my blog candy contest last week. It was in reference to a photo that was taken of me and Danelle Johnson of Creative Cafe when she taught classes at our store last Friday November 30th. I had asked what was missing in the photo, something that I always have with me and it as a pen...I always, always , always have a pen or two in my hair. It is such a bad habit of mine that I even fall asleep with it in my head. Sylvia is the winner of last week blog candy contest and you may pick your prize anytime this week at the store...it will be behind the counter for you. In the upcoming year, I plan on having more SOS contests, so make sure you reply and you too may be a winner...it is that simple.

Keep in mind...for those of you who missed Danelle's classes last week...we still have kits available for purchase...feel free to contact us at the store for more information and yes...we will ship kits to you if need be.

I wanted to leave you with some parting photos...One is of our lovely holiday window that Melissa worked so hard on this month..I love the idea of the jars with the patterned paper and even gift wrapping the boxes and using patterend paper too...see how scrapbooking is not just for scrapbooking anymore, you may also decorate with it. Also, here is a photo of our creation table for this month...it will change out weekly this month so make sure to stop by and take a peak of how you may recreate some layouts, cards, etc. for yourself or someone else this holiday season. Gather Inspiration from our Creation Table.

Do not forget to check out our website for more information on any of the above that I mention plus alot more information is there...psst...especially look at the coupon section...just print it out and bring it in to redeem what is on there...I even hear there is a special BONUS coupon from us that will help inspire you in 2008 on our coupon page.

This has been your SOS for this week

Scrappin On Sundays...

Wow...what a week, weekend and week ahead for Windy City Scrapbooking

We are still recovering from the after Thanksgiving sale...thank you again for coming out and shopping which will help us make room for the new.
Speaking of new...we have alot of new items in this week. I had the joy of putting out the new Autumn Leaves Christmas line...with patterned papers, glitter papers, die cut papers, felt ribbons, buttons and other embellishments, I would have to say that this is one of my favorites. New Fancy Pants chipboard shapes, felt shapes, transparencies and clear stamps came in. New Quickutz shapes came in and much more...too much to mention.
We had the honor of hosting Danelle Johnson of Creative Cafe on Friday. She was gracious to teach 2 AWESOME classes and also a Happy Hour. The classes were really something. I was not able to take the classes since I was working but I got a glimpse of what the ladies made and I am so glad that we do have kits from both classes available for purchase, as I will be getting one of both. Danelle is really a great instructor and I will make sure to take her classes next time she comes to Windy City Scrapbooking to teach. Christina had the pleasure of taking both classes and Susan and Jen took one while Sesil and Melissa took another one.
A great time was had by all that took the class. The Creative Cafe concept is really a great one and if you haven't taken the time to come in and see it in person...here is a little glimpse along with more photos from the night.

So Christmas is around the corner...I can not believe that it is already December. This week in the store, we have alot of classes going on...everything from Basics to Stitchery, we have a Mommy and Me class of Ornament making along with an Invitations and more class and other Holiday Gift giving ideas. We also have Happy Hours going on this week that will consist of the Creative Cafe concept and again...we will have kits available at the store for Danelle's class that she taught this past weekend if you were not able to attend...just contact us at the store for more details (we ship anywhere in the United States too.)

I heard that the Memory Mixer is on sale where you can by Version 2 and get Version 1 for free and we also still have Quickutz Revolutions on sale too...these two sales will last until 12/24/07 or while supplies last.
I also heard that the coupons for this month are great...make sure to check them out on our website www.windycityscrapbooking.com and be on the lookout for our 12 days of Christmas along with our Men's Night this month.

Whew! I hope I got it all...
This is your SOS for this week and I leave with some more photos to share of our classes with Danelle...my favorite is the one with me and her.
Speaking of that photo...I have a blog candy contest...based on that photo of me with her, can you tell the one thing that I always have with me or on me that I do not have in the photo...answer by 12/7/07 right here and I will notify the winner.

Scrapping On Sundays...

Hello everyone,

I hope that everyone had a great weekend and ready for new week...I am recovering still from my Scrap and Spa weekend and I was bitten by a stomach virus a few days ago so I am trying to bounce back from that too...not to mention with daylight savings time going backwards last night...someone forgot to tell my twins, Alex and Allegra, and they were up at 6:30 this morning...I was not happy scapper.

Okay so...last Sunday, I wrote about my spa weekend and I mentioned that I was going to post photos but I did not...well...here you go. Also...I have had alot of people inquire about the place I visited...it is called Scrap and Spa and it is located in Michigan City, Indiana ( http://www.scrapandspa.com/ ) The owner Diane Anderson is a gem...I accidentally forgot one of my cropper hoppers last weekend and she brought it back to me today. She and her daughter took my Acrylic Frame class and had a great time...
Thanks Diane, for everything .

So, last Sunday I had my first Scrappin On Sundays contest as to guess how many pages I completed during my retreat...well, I must say that SYLV was close enough. SYLV guessed that I did 15 pages when I did 13 pages. That may not be alot for some but for me it was alot. I will be posting those soon too. SYLV...there will be something for you behind the counter available for you to pick up. Thanks for playing and be looking out for more blog contests on Sundays.

So this week marks the beginning of earning Turkey Bucks at Windy City Scrapbooking....what are Turkey Bucks you might ask?
Well, for every 25.00 dollars you spend (pre-tax) from November 1st to November 23rd you will earn a turkey buck that will be redeemable during December 1st-16th...any questions...feel free to contact me here or at the store

Also...make sure to check out the website (http://www.windycityscrapbooking.com/) for the new coupons for this month, there are some good ones. They are different each week...just print it out for the month of November and bring it in.

Creative Cafe is really cool...just like a candy store...make sure to stop in and check it out.

With the holiday season getting in gear, make sure to check out our classes. There are so many creative classes to choose from, great for gift giving or keeping for yourself.

This is your SOS for today

Hello everyone,

Hope that you had a great weekend and are looking forward to this week.I, myself, had a FAB weekend doing what I love best...Scrappin & Relaxin'...and a little Shoppin too.

I finally made it to my scrapbooking group's retreat. We had planned this retreat back in March and we finally made our journey. The place is really close to Chicago and you can go and totally relax, relate, and release. We arrived early on Thursday, had lunch and dove right into our scrapbooking supplies and got to creating. We did stop to watch Grey's Anatomy...this first night, I went to bed at 3am Friday, we all slept in, had breakfast, and scrapped some more. Some of our group had spa services. We ended up staying up til 5am this night, as with Saturday night too. Sunday came to quick and before I knew it, I was getting off the Indiana Toll road heading back into Chicago. While I was there, I did make a few calls back home to Windy City Scrapbooking and the big joke and concern was how many pages would I get done...well, I want to make this interesting for all of you. I did get some pages done and I would love for you, Windy City Scrapbooking Blog readers to let me know that you are out there and guess how many layouts I was able to complete during my 3 day stay.Just post a comment with the number that you think and I will be giving away something special. Please post your comments by Wednesday, October 31st.

So I am so excited to hear that Creative Cafe has finally arrived and even more excited that Danelle Johnson is coming to teach at the store. Besides Creative Cafe, I am also interested in seeing what else has arrived at the store and where things are going to go. I tell you...you leave for a few days and Windy City will change things in a minute. I love seeking our new things in the store, we have surprises for you in every corner.

Hope to see you this week in the store
